What is PaLaDIn?

PaLaDIn (Patient Lifestyle and Disease Data Interactium) is an Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) funded project that will develop and implement an innovative data collection platform to accelerate the development of effective treatments and patient care, enhance healthcare decision-making and improve patient outcomes.

PaLaDIn brings together public and private organisations across Europe, and beyond, to perform collaborative research and development, which is key for the interdisciplinary approach often needed for sustainable innovation. The PaLaDIn consortium consists of nine partners across five countries, including three European Member States (The Netherlands, Italy, and Germany), one Associated Country (UK), and one Third Country (US).

PaLaDIn Vision

PaLaDIn will develop and implement an innovative data collection platform to accelerate the development of effective treatments and patient care, enhance healthcare decision-making and improve patient outcomes.

PaLaDIn Mission

PaLaDIn is committed to enhancing healthcare outcomes for individuals with neuromuscular and other rare diseases through the development of ‘The Interactium,’ a global, patient-centric data platform. By gathering comprehensive patient data on health status and experiences, we ensure that patients’ voices are integral to healthcare decision-making. Our platform aims to accelerate the development of effective treatments, improve patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), and inform healthcare decisions. Ultimately, we strive to share our insights and tools to benefit other rare diseases, empowering patients and advancing better healthcare outcomes.

The aims of PaLaDIn are:

  • Develop a platform ‘The Interactium’ with capability to integrate patient data from various diverse sources.
  • Improve and increase the collection of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) and Patient Reported Experience Measures (PREMs), available to the Neuromuscular Diseases (NMD) community.
  • Maximise the utility, interoperability and reusability of the Interactium data so it can be widely used by researchers and industry, in clinical trial planning, drug development and understanding of diseases.
  • Co-create new digital outcome measures using wearable devices that meet patient preferences and needs.
  • Develop and publish new datasets for two NMDs (Myotonic Dystrophy (DM) and Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD)).
  • Improve access to clinical trials by taking tools from the Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and FSHD communities and implementing them in other diseases.
  • Maximise PaLaDIn impact by scaling up the insights gained from NMDs to benefit the wider rare disease community.
  • Each Work Package in the project has its own specific objectives which can be viewed here.
