Meet the Team: Amsterdam University Medical Center

Amsterdam UMC is a leading medical center that combines complex high-quality patient care, innovative scientific research, and education of the next generation of health care professionals. We believe that health care practice, research and education belong together, with each shaping and informing the other.

Within Amsterdam UMC, the Reusable Health Data group of the Medical Informatics department focuses on making health data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR). We develop and apply methods and policies regarding the input, storage and utilization of health data and knowledge. Additionally, we make agreements for when the data is understandable. One of our focus areas is the care for individuals with rare diseases.

“We improve tomorrow’s health and care by using today’s data”

– prof. dr. ir. Ronald Cornet

Our contribution to the PaLaDin project centers on applying FAIR principles to the Interactium. Our aim is to ensure that patients, clinicians, and researchers can more easily share their data and reuse data that are already collected. In doing so, we aim to foster collaboration, speed up discoveries, and ultimately improve patient care.

This project is supported by the Innovative Health Initiative Joint Undertaking (IHI JU) under grant agreement No 101132943. The JU receives support from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, COCIR, EFPIA, EuropaBio, MedTech Europe, Vaccines Europe (and the FSHD Society and TREAT-NMD Services Ltd as contributing partners participating in the project). The project will also receive funding from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) under the UK government’s Horizon Europe funding guarantee [grant numbers 10105921, 10103989, and 10083579]
